Why Growth Creates Separation by Adeline Atlas
May 17, 2025
I’m Adeline Atlas, and today we’re diving into one of the most eye-opening truths about personal growth: No Free Rides in the Game of Life. Growth is a journey, and while it’s rewarding, it’s not without its challenges—especially when it comes to the relationships you leave behind. If you’re ready to learn how to navigate the game, level up, and protect your progress, you’re in the right place. Let’s get started.
Let’s begin with the big question: Why does personal growth lead to separation from others? The truth is, as you evolve and expand, not everyone will come with you. And that’s okay—but it’s also painful.
If you’re living a comfortable, predictable life and have no desire to push yourself, this might not apply to you. But if you’re stepping out of the box, chasing your dreams, and aiming for new levels of success, this is a hurdle you’ll face.
Here’s Why Separation Happens:
- Your Growth Reflects Their Inaction
When you grow, it’s like holding up a mirror to your friends, showing them what they’re not doing. It’s uncomfortable for them to see your transformation because it reminds them of their own stagnation. - Your Frequency Shifts
Friendships are built on shared energy and alignment. When you elevate, you change your frequency. If others aren’t growing alongside you, the connection weakens. - The Silent Judgment
When you decide your current situation isn’t good enough, it can unintentionally come across as a critique of others’ lives. Even if you don’t mean it that way, it’s how many people interpret it.
Friendship and the Line in the Sand
We choose friends because they’re like us—same energy, same frequency, same interests. That’s why we connect.
But when you decide to level up, you’re drawing a line in the sand. You’re essentially saying, I’m ready for more.
The Two Outcomes of Growth in Friendships:
- They Grow With You
Sometimes your growth inspires others to rise with you. This happens when your friends are ready to embrace change and do the work themselves. - They Resist Your Growth
More often, friends resist. They’re comfortable where they are, and your growth feels like a threat to their stability. This is where resentment and friction begin.
The Rollercoaster Ticket Analogy
Life is like an amusement park.
- The General Pass: Everyone gets access to the park. It lets you walk through the gates and see the game field—the rides, attractions, and options.
- The Special Tickets: But the best rides—the thrilling ones with the incredible views—require a special ticket.
Here’s the catch: That ticket isn’t paid for with money. It’s earned. It’s the result of hard work, dedication, and leveling up.
No Free Rides
Not everyone is willing to pay the price to get that ticket. And even if you try to carry others with you, it doesn’t work. They haven’t earned it, and without the lessons, skills, and growth required, they won’t be able to sustain it.
Carrying People vs. Inspiring People
For years, I tried to bring people with me. I’d pay for friends’ trips, meals, and even set up opportunities for their success. But here’s what I learned: Carrying people doesn’t help them—it cripples them.
When you hand someone an opportunity they didn’t work for, they won’t know how to maintain it. They lack the lessons and resilience to make it work.
Instead of carrying people, become a pillar of inspiration. Stand tall, show what’s possible, and attract those who are ready to rise on their own.
Separation Is a Gift for Your Soul
Separation isn’t punishment—it’s protection. As you rise, you’ll encounter people who try to pull you back down, not out of malice but out of discomfort.
- You’re Not Responsible for Their Journey
Your job isn’t to carry anyone. It’s to stay aligned with your growth and focus on your game. - Stand Tall in Your Growth
Never feel guilty for leveling up. You’ve earned your success, and it’s okay to let go of relationships that no longer serve your highest good.
The “Bad Guys” in the Game of Life
In the game of life, you’ll encounter “bad guys”—people or situations that test you. These challenges aren’t obstacles; they’re opportunities to grow stronger and sharper.
Examples of “Bad Guys” in the Game:
- Toxic Relationships: Partners or friends who drain your energy or undermine your growth.
- Saboteurs: Colleagues or competitors who try to block your success.
- Self-Sabotage: Your own fears, doubts, and limiting beliefs.
These challenges are part of the game. They’re there to teach you resilience and push you closer to your goals.
Your Challenge: Level Up Without Guilt
Here’s your challenge for the week:
- Audit Your Relationships
Who’s helping you grow? Who’s holding you back? - Release the Weight
Let go of relationships that no longer align with your growth. - Celebrate Your Success
Be proud of how far you’ve come, and don’t apologize for wanting more.
Life is a game, and the best rides require effort, commitment, and growth. There are no free rides, but the rewards of earning your way to the top are unmatched.
You can’t carry others to the top, but you can inspire them to climb alongside you. Stand tall, stay true to your path, and focus on the incredible opportunities ahead.
