How to Ask Good Questions
“Asking a good question is sort of executing the act of curiosity. Curiosity begins with a thought and typically what follows is a question, and ultimately what follows from that is a lot of learning, and that’s really what curiosity is all about.”
– Dan Manthrop, The Art of Asking Questions
Why Asking Questions is a Superpower
The ability to ask good questions is a skill that can speed up your progress in the game of life. Asking questions is how you check in with the Universe—this is your co-creation process in action.
When you ask a question, you open a doorway. Like headlights on a dark highway, each question illuminates the next part of the road. You don’t need to see the entire journey ahead—just keep asking, and the answers will guide you step by step.
The Power of the Question
- Questions Expand Your Mind
The act of questioning activates your imagination and thought process. The answers are secondary—what truly matters is the mental and spiritual exploration sparked by asking. - Questions Lead to Clarity
Your first question might not give you the perfect answer, but it will lead to more focused questions. This process of expansion ultimately reveals the answers you’re seeking. - Questions Stimulate Growth
Growth happens when you ask, explore, and reflect. Never underestimate the power of curiosity to unlock your potential.
Types of Questions
1. Binary Choices
- Examples: Yes/No or This/That questions.
- Purpose: To help you make decisions when the choices are limited.
- Tip: Use this when you’re stuck between two paths and need clarity on the best option.
2. Close-Ended Questions
- Examples: “Do I act this way because of A, B, C, or D?”
- Purpose: To narrow down possibilities and pinpoint specific answers.
3. Open-Ended Questions
- Examples: “What motivates me?” or “What am I meant to learn from this experience?”
- Purpose: To explore infinite possibilities, dive deeper into reflection, or gain insight into your spiritual journey.
Nighttime Journaling Exercise
One of the best ways to receive guidance is to write your questions down before bed.
- Grab your journal and write out any questions you want clarity on.
- Ask the Universe to send you a sign or guidance.
- Go to bed and let it go.
- Observe what shows up in your thoughts, dreams, or daily life.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Tonight, write down one or more questions you’ve been holding onto. Stay open to the answers, which might come as a thought, a sign, or even a feeling.
Why Questions Matter in the Game of Life
Asking good questions is how you level up in life. Questions are like keys—they unlock doors to possibilities you didn’t even know existed. The more you ask, the more answers will come, and with those answers, the Universe shows you how to play and win.
