You’ve probably heard that old saying: by Adeline Atlas
May 17, 2025
I’m Adeline Atlas, and today, we’re diving into a topic that might just change the way you think about grudges, resentment, and the power of your thoughts and words.
"Resentment is like swallowing poison and expecting the other person to die."
It’s a powerful thought, isn’t it? But let’s take a moment to really overstand it. Let’s break it down and reflect on what it means for us—our energy, our thoughts, and even our physical and emotional health.
Here’s a little thought exercise for you:
If every thought holds energy and a frequency, who is actually affected when you hold a negative thought about someone else? Who is housing that thought? Who is carrying that energetic weight?
Think about it—those angry, negative, or bitter thoughts you have about someone else, where do they live? They live inside you. They vibrate in your mind. They move through your body. The other person might not even know you’re upset, but here you are, carrying that poison, letting it run through your energy field, your nervous system, your very being.
And this doesn’t just stop with your thoughts. It applies to your words, too.
Have you ever spoken ill of someone—maybe in a moment of frustration, anger, or even gossip? Here’s the thing: when you speak ill of someone else, those words don’t just disappear into the air. They first pass through your mind, your mouth, and your body. It’s your vocal cords vibrating as you speak them. It’s your energy field resonating with the negativity of those words.
In a way, you’re the one consuming the poison. You’re the one vibrating with the very thing you think you’re giving to someone else.
And this also applies to how we speak about ourselves. Every time you criticize yourself, insult yourself, or say something unkind about who you are, that energy moves through you. Your body doesn’t know the difference between you directing it at someone else or yourself—it feels the vibration all the same.
This brings us to the concept of “karma.” A lot of people think of karma as this external force—like if you do something bad, something bad will come back to you later, maybe through someone else or some random event. But the truth is, karma is much more immediate than that.
Karma is not about some cosmic scoreboard keeping track of your actions. It’s a boomerang—what you give out, you get back. And here’s the kicker: you don’t even have to wait for it to come back to you. As you think it, speak it, or act on it, you’re already receiving it. You’re already living it.
The energy you put out doesn’t wait for some distant consequence—it reverberates through your life the moment you create it.
So, let me ask you this: How do you want to use your energy? How do you want your thoughts and words to vibrate through your life?
Imagine what would happen if, instead of harboring resentment or speaking negatively, you chose to cultivate thoughts and words of love, peace, and kindness. Not for the sake of others, but for yourself. Because when you choose positivity, when you choose alignment, you’re choosing to nourish your own energy.
It’s not always easy. Life will challenge you. People will challenge you. But every time you’re tempted to hold onto a grudge, think about this: Is it worth poisoning your own energy just to prove a point?
So, the next time you catch yourself holding a negative thought or speaking ill of someone—even yourself—pause. Take a deep breath. And ask yourself: What kind of energy do I want to carry? What kind of vibration do I want to live in?
Because the truth is, you’re not just creating your reality—you’re living it, moment by moment, thought by thought, word by word.
