ARE WE CAPPED IN TERMS OF DEVELOPMENT?
No, of course not! You can learn and grow your entire life! You can be a better, smarter, and more intelligent version of yourself every day for the rest of your life if you choose to!
The limits of human development and the capacity to learn and retain information are endless! The role of genetics in determining intelligence, researchers found, could be as little as 20 percent, with other experts challenging that it is an inherent trait at all! Meaning you have an 80% possibility of being intelligent just by choice! Sure, you can have a genetic predisposition to certain skills; if you're seven feet tall, you may have an easier time at basketball. However, the mere presence of a predisposition doesn't ensure the manifestation of the potential. Consider a musically inclined individual with a latent aptitude for the violin. Without exposure to the instrument, education in music, and opportunities to practice, this innate potential may never be realized. This analogy underscores the critical role of environmental influences and resource availability in the development of our intrinsic capabilities. Genetics may set certain parameters, but they are not the definitive arbiters of our developmental path. Educational access, quality training, mentorship, and personal dedication also play indispensable roles in our growth and in actualizing our talents. The breadth of your learning and information retention is not preordained by your DNA. Instead, it is shaped by a complex interplay of genetic dispositions, environmental conditions, and your effort!
Identifying one's learning style is the first crucial step!
You’ll never remember something you don’t want to remember!
- Are you a visual learner? Then you should be watching YouTube and videos to gain knowledge and skills!
- Are you an auditory learner? Then you should be listening to podcasts and audiobooks or going to talks on subjects you are interested in!
- Do you learn best by mimicking? Then you should get a mentor and shadow them. Follow them, watch them, replicate what you see.
- Are you a tactile learner? Do you need to touch and interact with what you are learning? Time to join hands-on classes and jump right into the “trying” phase of any new skill you want to learn!
It's important to acknowledge that our brains tend to filter and retain information that resonates with us. Adapt your learning to a style that resonates with you. Learning is meant to be enjoyable, learn in a manner that is most enjoyable to you.
