Instructions: Next time you watch the news, grab a piece of paper and make two columns.

Label one column “positive” and the other “negative.” Fill in each column with the headlines. As you watch a half-hour of news, fill in each column with the headlines. Then, total up the columns. How much of the news was positive, and how much of the news was negative? Next, with one word for each column, summarize the theme for each column from that day. You can do this for more than one day, too, if you want to see the cumulative theme over the course of days or weeks.
