How does one guarantee a successful life? There are few ways to pay yourself in a manner that no one can ever take that value from you. Learning is the ultimate skill that one should master, for knowledge can build you a life and in some cases it can save your life. It can put you in the right rooms and allow you to take advantage of opportunities when they arise. Knowing the right things at the right time are often more valuable than money itself. 

What’s my advice to someone who wants to become successful in life? Read. Read, read, and read some more. Reading comes as a natural love for some and for others it will be acquired. Kind of like wine. Ask yourself, did you actually love that first sip of wine? I bet you thought it tasted gross. Not all things are loved in the beginning but when it comes to learning you are sure to hack your way into loving the activity if you don't in the beginning. The brain loves accomplishment and when it learns it knows it is gaining power. Did you know the brain releases dopamine when you learn? Yes, that same hit of excitement you gain as a “boost up” from your brain when swiping social media can be gained through learning. 

The more you learn, the more you will want to learn. I love to read, and that is reflected in my Goodreads stats – recently I crossed the 1000-books-read mark. But it wasn't always this way! Far from it. I wasn't a smart kid. I struggled severely in school, had an army of tutors, and only barely made it through after attending five high schools! Yup, you read that right, five!! It took me until grade 11 to be able to do entry-level math on my own, and to this day, I still struggle with telling time and spelling.

So, how did I end up as a self-made business owner several times over? There is no crazy secret; I started reading. I read and read and read until I knew what the books were talking about. I would go to the library and check out ten, twenty, thirty books on business, sales, finance, leadership, and self-development! When I opened the first book on any new subject, I had no idea what it was talking about. I knew none of the terms and barely overstood the points the books were trying to make. Every word I didn’t know I would circle and look up. But with each book I got through, the vocabulary started landing, and the pieces of the puzzle would come together until, suddenly, it would all make sense. 

The more subjects I learned, the more the puzzle came together, and, suddenly, I had learned everything I needed to know to get to where I am today. Everything I needed to know to open a business, start a team, and create success from nothing. There is not a skill you can’t teach yourself. Everything is possible to learn.
