THE SOFT GIRL ERA
Oct 01, 2026
Why the woman who learned to do everything herself may eventually discover the power of no longer needing to
There is a particular kind of woman who knows exactly how to get shit done.
She built the plan. Made the calls. Solved the problem. Paid the bill. Hit the deadline. Took the risk. Carried the responsibility. And when life handed her something impossible, she figured that out too.
For years, we called her the boss babe.
And I was very good at being her.
There is immense power in learning how to lead, provide, execute, compete, make decisions and create your own security. I would never tell a woman to become less capable so she can appear more feminine.
But there can come a point when capability becomes your permanent operating system.
You stop asking, Do I need to handle this?
You simply handle everything.
And eventually, some women discover that the next evolution isn't learning how to carry more.
It's realizing they don't have to carry everything.
Welcome to the soft girl era.
SOFT DOESN'T MEAN WEAK
soft
/sɒft/
adjective
Gentle, receptive, yielding, comfortable; not hard or rigid.
Somewhere along the way, softness became confused with weakness.
It isn't.
A woman can be intelligent and soft. Wealthy and soft. Ambitious and soft. Powerful and soft. She can run a company, negotiate a contract, make her own money, board the private jet and still absolutely adore being treated like a woman.
The feminine doesn't require you to surrender your power.
It gives your power another language.
There is power in receiving.
Power in beauty.
Power in intuition.
Power in creativity.
Power in allowing someone else to lead sometimes because you choose to—not because you are incapable of leading yourself.
And there is something incredibly freeing about realizing you don't need to prove your strength every waking second of your life.
FORMER BOSS BABES, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU
If you've spent years operating in what people often call your “masculine energy,” you probably know the rhythm.
Do. Decide. Execute. Control. Achieve. Repeat.
You become the person everyone can count on.
You know how to make something happen.
You know how to survive without being rescued.
You know how to walk into a room and take command of it.
Beautiful.
Keep her.
Seriously.
The soft girl era is not about killing the boss babe and replacing her with some helpless version of yourself who suddenly can't make a dinner reservation.
It's about realizing she doesn't need to be on duty 24 hours a day.
You can keep the woman who knows how to build the empire while making room for the woman who actually wants to enjoy living inside it.
LET YOURSELF RECEIVE
For a woman accustomed to doing everything herself, receiving can feel strangely foreign.
Someone opens the door.
I've got it.
Someone offers to help.
I'm fine.
Someone wants to take care of something.
Don't worry, I'll do it.
Someone wants to spoil you.
You really don't have to.
Queen.
Maybe they know they don't have to.
Maybe they fucking want to.
There is a difference between dependence and receptivity.
You don't need to manufacture helplessness to experience being cared for.
You can know exactly how to buy yourself flowers and still smile when someone arrives carrying them.
You can book your own flight and still adore hearing, “It's handled.”
You can buy the dress yourself and still enjoy being gifted the dress.
You can create a beautiful life independently and still leave space for someone to make that life even more beautiful.
Receiving doesn't erase your independence.
It simply means independence is no longer the only experience available to you.
BEAUTY IS ALLOWED TO MATTER
Your soft girl era can also be unapologetically beautiful.
Wear the dress.
Buy the flowers.
Put perfume on for breakfast.
Spend an unreasonable amount of time getting ready simply because you enjoy looking fucking fabulous.
Travel somewhere magnificent.
Drink coffee from the beautiful cup.
Fill your home with art.
Wear pink.
Wear silk.
Wear diamonds.
Book the gorgeous room.
There doesn't need to be some deeper productive purpose attached to every beautiful thing you enjoy.
Beauty itself can be the experience.
We spend so much of adulthood asking whether something is useful, efficient, productive or financially sensible.
Sometimes the answer can simply be:
Because I fucking love it.
That is enough.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO TURN YOUR LIFE INTO A PERFORMANCE OF STRUGGLE
There is a strange cultural romance around the woman who does everything herself.
She never needs anybody.
She never asks for anything.
She works harder than everyone.
She carries everything beautifully and somehow still looks fabulous doing it.
But Queen, you already know you're capable.
How many more times do you need to prove it?
You don't receive a medal at the end of your life because you deliberately chose the hardest possible version of every experience.
Take the help.
Accept the invitation.
Let someone carry the bag.
Let the door be opened.
Let yourself be courted.
Let yourself be spoiled.
Let life occasionally be easy.
Not because you can't do hard things.
Because you've already established that you fucking can.
FEMININITY DOESN'T REQUIRE SHRINKING
This matters.
Embracing femininity should never require becoming less intelligent, less ambitious, less financially capable, less opinionated or less yourself.
You don't have to make yourself smaller so somebody else can feel bigger.
That's not softness.
That's shrinking.
Your femininity belongs to you.
Maybe yours looks like long pink dresses overlooking Milan.
Maybe it's glamorous dinners and flowers everywhere.
Maybe it's creating art.
Maybe it's motherhood.
Maybe it's romance.
Maybe it's fashion.
Maybe it's allowing yourself to be deeply cared for.
Maybe it's being the most formidable woman in the boardroom and coming home, taking the heels off and letting somebody else decide what's for dinner.
There isn't one correct performance of femininity.
The point is that you get to explore the parts of yourself that may have been drowned out by years of constantly having to do.
MAYBE YOUR NEXT LEVEL FEELS DIFFERENT
Not every evolution needs to look like more hustle.
Maybe you've already had that era.
Maybe you know exactly what you're capable of when your back is against the wall.
Maybe you've already built, fought, achieved, survived, reinvented and figured it the fuck out.
So perhaps this chapter isn't asking:
How much more can you carry?
Perhaps it's asking:
How beautiful can you make your life now that you know how powerful you are?
Bring the ambition.
Keep the standards.
Keep the intelligence.
Keep the money.
Keep the independence.
Keep the woman who can walk into any room and handle herself.
But let her wear the pink dress.
Let her be adored.
Let her receive.
Let her create simply because it's beautiful.
Let her experience luxury without needing to turn it into an accomplishment.
Let her put down what she no longer needs to carry.
You don't need to choose between being powerful and being soft.
Queen, you were always allowed to be both.
And maybe that's the real soft girl era:
Not becoming a different woman.
Finally giving every version of yourself permission to exist at the same fucking time.
Take it or leave it.
