Planning Your Learning Journey by Adeline Atlas
May 15, 2025
Welcome to School of Soul! I am Adeline Atlas, the author of the School of Soul Series, a six-time published author. Today, we’re diving into a topic that’s crucial for anyone looking to grow, evolve, and master new skills—planning your learning journey. Let's explore how to create a structured, intentional path to learning that works for you!
Let’s talk about a powerful strategy that could revolutionize how you approach learning: time blocking. You've probably heard of time blocking before—maybe you've used it to schedule gym hours, meetings, or social events. But what if I told you that time blocking could be a game-changer for your learning journey as well?
Think about this: How often do you dive into new topics? Is it every week, bi-weekly, or maybe just once a month for a deep dive? One of the first steps in planning your learning journey is to take a bird’s-eye view of your time. Look at the year ahead—how much time are you working with?
Ask yourself: Do you want to focus on one thing all year and become a master of that topic by maintaining focused and sustained study? Or would you prefer to divide your year into quarters and explore a new subject each quarter? For example, you could dedicate the first quarter to mastering business skills, and then shift your focus to personal development habits in the next quarter. This way, by spending three months on each subject, you gain mini-masteries across multiple areas.
And here's another crucial element of planning your learning journey: reflection time. Don’t forget to include some dedicated moments to reflect on what you’ve learned. Maybe set aside one day each week as your official "What have I learned?" day. This is your time to recap, review, and digest everything you’ve absorbed during the week. Reflect on any insights or breakthroughs you’ve had—this helps reinforce your learning and deepens your understanding.
Creating a learning blueprint is all about crafting a plan that resonates with you, one that feels both inspiring and manageable. Break it down into smaller, more manageable chunks. Schedule it up. Give each subject its own spotlight, its own period of focus. That way, you’re not just skimming the surface—you’re learning with intent, mastering each topic, and then confidently moving on to the next.
Remember, planning your learning journey isn’t about cramming information or overwhelming yourself with too many topics at once. It’s about setting a sustainable pace, giving yourself the space to explore, master, and retain each new area of knowledge. It’s about learning in a way that aligns with your personal goals, interests, and values.
So, whether you choose to deep dive into a single subject for a year or explore a new topic every few months, make sure your learning journey is intentional. Make sure it’s designed for you. Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about learning more—it’s about learning better.
