Elimination Gratification
What is Elimination Gratification?
Elimination gratification is the joyful feeling you get when you complete a task. It's that little rush of satisfaction you feel each time you cross something off your to-do list. This natural sense of accomplishment can be used to your advantage. By consciously engaging in elimination gratification, you create a positive feedback loop that motivates you to keep moving forward.
When it comes to tracking your goals, work in ways to feel this sense of gratification. For example, if you have a target list, every time you cross off a task, you get a hit of elimination gratification. Even if you feel like, “I don’t need to write that down,” do it anyway. Write down what you are going to do and cross it off when you’re done. This simple action reinforces the belief that you are capable, reliable, and successful.
You are training yourself to see that you are a winner, someone who follows through and gets things done. This mindset builds momentum; it turns each task into a mini-goal, a level to cross. The more you win, the more you want to win. You begin to associate the completion of tasks with positive feelings, which makes you want to keep going.
