The ”Butterfly” Analogy
Let’s use the analogy of the "butterfly" feeling—a sensation many of you experience during significant moments in life. Think about those big life events: graduating, getting married, starting a new job, or embarking on a new journey. Each of these moments can evoke a fluttering sensation in your stomach, similar to the feeling you get when you're anxious.
However, these butterflies are not a sign of anxiety but of excitement. It’s the thrill of stepping into something new, the anticipation of what’s to come, and the rush of stepping outside your comfort zone. It's a signal from your body that something important and meaningful is happening. But because you often associate this feeling with negative experiences, you can easily mistake these butterflies for anxiety.
Consider how differently you might approach these situations if you consciously reframed this feeling. Instead of saying, "I feel nervous about this," you could say, "I feel excited about this opportunity." Both emotions come with similar physical sensations, but the emotional context changes everything.
