The Habit of Reliability
Imagine a life where you consistently did everything you promised yourself. No one else is going to hold you accountable—this is your responsibility. Too often, people do the bare minimum, drifting through life without fully engaging with its possibilities. To truly thrive, you must train yourself to be your own accountability partner.
How do you teach yourself to be reliable? It's simple: do what you say you will do. This is the big secret. As you'll explore in the sections on "The Power of Belief" and "The Power of the Spoken Word," every word matters. You create what you speak. If you say you will do something and then don't, you are training your brain to believe you are unreliable.
When you tell yourself you'll wake up at 6:00 a.m. to do yoga and then decide not to, you're teaching yourself that you can't be trusted. Each time you don't follow through, you erode your self-confidence and self-worth. Even small actions, like not making your bed, add up, creating guilt and shame. You come to believe you are not worthy, and this belief lowers your vibration, holding you back.
On the other hand, when you keep your word, you release dopamine, the reward hormone, which makes you feel good. You reinforce your reliability and avoid guilt and shame. As you start consistently doing what you say, your brain begins to support you, helping you tackle bigger challenges with confidence.
