Thorndike's Theory
Thorndike was responsible for the first three "Laws of Learning." These are readiness, exercise, and effect. His law of effect suggests you can train your mind to strive for larger accomplishments in life. Thorndike's principle also suggests that satisfaction achieved by obtaining larger accomplishments is likely to recur each time, without plateauing.
I connect this to Type 2 fun. With experience, your mind starts to crave Type 2 fun. Type 1 fun no longer satisfies your soul when you are on the path and strengthening your character. It doesn’t feel as meaningful or as worthwhile as taking on tests experienced in Type 2 fun. The more you do Type 2 fun challenges, the more you'll want to head into them.
I won’t sugarcoat it. When you start something that is Type 2 fun, the experience is likely going to be so uncomfortable that it will completely suck. It may even feel like suffering. However, because you are mentally prepared, you expect this. You’ll trigger the thought that it is not so much suffering as a challenge on your path to your next level. Just because something is uncomfortable, it does not mean it cannot create joy. Because of this and because I’m always looking at more opportunities to level up, when I look at Type 2 fun, I say, “Game on!” Soon, you will, too.
