Brain Hack: Only One Thing to Do

Try playing with your words. Instead of saying, “I have to do labels today,” or “Oh my gosh, I've got to do shipping today” or “I have to make content today,” say, “The only thing I have to do today is pack orders” or “The only thing I have to do today is make content.” Suddenly, your brain might think, “Oh, that’s all I’ve got to do. Let me just go do it!”

Play games with your mind. This is what I call reframing. "All I have to do today is..." Write these every night before bed after you do your "Wins." Your "Wins" are your closed loops for the day—before bed, celebrate and connect to your successes to cultivate forward momentum for the coming day.

“All I have to do is” is one of my favorite self-hacks. Every night before bed, write out one large Post-it. At the top, write the next day, for example, "Tuesday." Then, write: "All I have to do today is..." and list your top three tasks for the next day. How do you choose your top three tasks? Ask yourself, "Of everything I COULD do, what is the one thing I could do that would change everything?" Then, ask this question two more times. There are always linchpin tasks hidden in your to-do lists.
