Use Sequencing When Planning Your Habit Stacking
What is Sequencing?
Sequencing is the natural progression of tasks required to achieve a goal. It’s the order in which tasks should be completed to move from disorder to order effectively. When planning your habit stacking, it's crucial to block time for all tasks related to one specific goal, but make sure to do so in the correct sequence. Even when batching and time-blocking, following the right sequence ensures you have enough resources prepared for each step, avoiding delays or inefficiencies.
Learn how to do whatever it is you need to do in the best sequence. Once you have a perfected sequence, don’t change it. The more times you do a sequence, the faster you become at it. For example, every time I set social media for my companies, I follow a process for the order I create the content, using the same order as the month before. Over time, I found the best order for creating and posting, and then I ran the same process every time I had to do that task.
Example:
- Create visuals in Canva.
- Paste quotes on visuals.
- Make reels.
- Make sales pieces of content for the current course or book I am selling.
- Post all to Instagram scheduling app.
- Link all content from Instagram to blog.
- From blog, share all content to Pinterest.
Ta-da! I made only one set of content, repurposed it, and posted it in the best order to save the most time.
Pro Tip: Don’t change the sequence of your process, even when moving to batching or using large time blocks for each step.
Anytime you do anything in life, there is a sequence to it. Whether it is how you set up and take out equipment or open programs on your computer if you are going to produce episodes for your podcast, or if it’s meal prep time and you need to set up and clean up afterward. Each task has a sequence that will streamline the process and save the most time. Find that sequence, and then repeat it.
