Welcome back to Soul Renovation. I’m Adeline Atlas — 7-times published author.

Definition:
Criticism only holds weight when it comes from someone whose lens you respect. If their life isn’t aligned with where you’re headed, their opinion should never be your compass.

Don’t take criticism from someone you wouldn’t take advice from. It’s really that simple. We live in a world where everyone has an opinion, but not everyone’s opinion deserves a seat at your mental table. If you wouldn’t trust their advice on how to build, how to move, how to lead — why are you entertaining their critique?

You have to ask yourself: is this person even qualified to speak into my vision? Do they live in alignment? Have they built anything I respect? Do they operate in the frequency I’m trying to hold? Or are they projecting from their own limitations, masked as “feedback”?

Not all criticism is constructive — some of it is just unprocessed insecurity. Some of it is resentment dressed up as concern. And if you’re not discerning, you’ll start shrinking under the weight of opinions that were never rooted in truth to begin with. You’ll second guess your strategy, your brand, your style, your voice — all because someone who hasn’t done the work decided to comment on yours.

Let’s be clear: there’s a difference between wise feedback and unqualified noise. The first will stretch you. It’ll challenge you from a place of expansion. It’ll come from someone who’s walked through fire, who’s built from scratch, who’s done the inner work. That kind of feedback is sacred. It’s valuable. It’s something you lean into — not because it strokes your ego, but because it speaks from experience.

But that second kind? The criticism that comes from people who aren’t aligned, aren’t intentional, aren’t even trying to grow? That’s not feedback — that’s a distraction. And you don’t owe it your energy.

Your calling is too high to be filtered through unhealed lenses.
Your vision is too sacred to be dissected by people who don’t even respect their own.
And your self-trust is too important to be weakened by commentary that’s coming from wounded perception — not wisdom.

This is where emotional discipline comes in. You don’t need to clap back. You don’t need to defend your every move. Just ask yourself, “Would I ever go to this person for direction?” And if the answer is no — then their opinion isn’t directional, it’s distractional.

And sometimes that means you’ll have to outgrow certain circles. Because proximity doesn’t equal permission. Just because someone knows you, doesn’t mean they have the right to advise you. Not everyone deserves that access. Not everyone’s words should land.

You didn’t come this far to start filtering your greatness through someone else’s smallness. So the next time someone has something to say about your pace, your purpose, your pivot, your presence — pause. Don’t react. Don’t shrink. Just ask: Would I take advice from this person? If not, let their voice go as quickly as it came.
