The magical contract represents how people lock others into binding exchanges—literal or symbolic—without them realizing the full cost. Like Esau trading his birthright for a meal, Ariel gives away something priceless for instant gratification.

Ursula doesn’t stop at taking Ariel’s voice; she uses it to replace her, charm the prince, and nearly claim Ariel’s place permanently. In life, people who envy you may remove you, then step into your role to reap your rewards.

Reversing the Swap
